Born as Miles Gilbert Horton, known as "Tim" by family and friends was a defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs for 17 full seasons and 3 partial seasons. Within his NHL career, he won 4 Stanley cups with his team and is now known as one the greatest defenseman of all time. Mr. Horton always loved playing hockey and at the tender age of 15, he began officially playing with the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. He attended St. Michael's college and started playing for their and was noted for his incredible hockey skills. He always had NHL scouts and executives always telling him he'd be the league's all-time great defenseman. He started playing with Toronto's minor-league team in Pittsburgh. But later, he found himself with a regular job with the Maple Leafs during the 1952-1953 season. In 1954, being on 24 at the time, Horton was chosen to the league's Second All-Star and he career took off from there. Having been playing professionally, he had many injuries including a broken leg and a broken jaw that left Horton in the hospital for treatment for a long period of time. It took him some time to recover but eventually he made it back on the ice. While having a hockey profession, Horton was also very passionate about baking. In 1964, Horton had opened the very first Tim Horton's doughnut shop in Hamilton after several attempts of starting a hamburger chain which had failed. His professional hockey career and his franchise career were both taking off really well. By 1967, the franchise became a multi-million dollar business. But, all didn't last too long when in the early morning of February 21st of 1974. He was killed in a single-car crash while driving home to Buffalo after a game in Toronto. He left his wife, his four daughters and his hockey and franchise legacy to the world. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame 3 years after his death and his franchise was continued by another hockey player. The franchise still continues to this day with over 100's of shops world-wide.
